Saturday
10am-12pm Music and Movement with Phoenix of Denver
Combos and exercises to strengthen your zill technique. Phoenix approaches
the zills from a different direction to help those that struggle with
zills and expand ideas for more experienced zill players. Phoenix combines
the drummer & dancer perspective when teaching zills. This allows
the dancer to understand the music rather than memorize the pattern.
This is a workshop for all styles and levels. For beginners, this will
help in understanding what you are doing with the music in terms of
zills and movement. For more advanced dancers, this will help to expand
your zill patterns and come up with new ideas on accenting the music.
Learn new combos, exercises to challenge your zilling and utilize your
own style/moves while gaining more confidence in with your zills.
Workshop for all levels of experience.

1-3pm Sword Dancing 101: Back to Basics & More with Selayma Anan
Selayma Anan has been performing with Sword for almost 30 years, and
has seen many shifts and changes in presentation, style, and application.
This workshop will cover some basic information on various types/styles
of swords, and their practical use, as well as control of your Sword.
Choreography
will be taught and includes presentation, combinations, musicality and
drama . . . for the Drama Mama in all of us! Knowledge of basic isolations
is recommended for this class. No head coverings, please. Full notes
provided. Choreography will be taught to "Embracing the Rain"
by Zel Hayal. Not quite ready for a sword? Bring a basket, pot (non-breakable
: ) or tray!
Basic Belly Dance experience is suggested.

Sunday 10am-12pm Tribal or Cabaret?
Sharp to Slinky Combos with Phoenix
Join Phoenix to shimmy, slink, slither and shake up new combinations
for your routines and
improvisational dance. The combinations will explore the similarities
and differences between the
cabaret and tribal fusion styles. Phoenix will break down the movements
and technique for the
combinations, give ideas for music to match the presentation and add
a few fun surprises for the
audience. Along with combinations, learn to work with the music and
engage your audience using
zill accents and patterns. The combinations will include slow-slinky,
fast-energetic and drum
accents for a variety of ideas.
Note: Zills are not required but an option to add accents and an additional
challenge for dancers.
Phoenix will review any zill patterns and give practice ideas for each
pattern used.
Workshop for all levels of experience.

1-3pm Recipe for a Drum Solo with Adriane
Learn how to dish up your own delectable drum solo, leaving your audience
begging for more! This workshop will teach you the concepts and techniques
that will empower you to create your own original drum solo. Bring a
bottle of water and leave the aprons at home!
Workshop is for all levels of experience.

This is NOT included in the Shimmy 2B Free workshop pricing and also we have limited space for this class.
Additional Isis Wings Class Option with Phoenix of Denver - Phoenix released the Isis Wings with Phoenix Instructional DVD in 2008. The DVD has sold worldwide with wonderful reviews. Do not miss this opportunity to begin your lessons in flight and expand your ideas for your Isis Wings dancing.

is offering a workshop geared for various levels. The workshop includes:

Tips for effortless appearance & fluid performance
Stage presence & imagery with the wings
If you do not own wings and are unsure about buying them - rent them from Phoenix for the workshop. You must state and prepay for the rental so that we ensure we have enough. Rental is $15 for the class.
Phoenix will also have a few sets of Isis Wings for sale at the workshops.
